The Processes Our Body Goes Through During Fasting

The fact is fasting is slowly gaining popularity these days for political, religious or other reasons and it's believed to have some health benefits and scientific researches have come up with various facts on some of its positive effects on humans although most people in the medical line are still skeptical about it and they are saying that around 2000 calories of the day's diet the best possible choice.

I will be stating the common observations our body goes through during fasting so try and follow through.

1. Loss of Weight:

When we start fasting, the glycogen stored in the liver starts getting burnt when the body doesn't find food since it's the body's primary source of energy. When the glycogen us used, Ketosis starts especially during the second day of fasting. Ketosis is the process of burning fatty acids inorder to gain to glucose which can lead to loss of weight. It is important to note that the body can turn amino acids into glucose which can lead to initial loss of muscles but this process doesn't last long so that the internal organs of the body can be preserved although studies have shown that fasting for 8 to 12 hours can prevent muscle loss which is also known as intermittent fasting.

2. Regeneration of the Immune Cells:

There are evidences that during the time of fasting, there's a rejuvenating effect on our immune system. This helps the body to fight off some conditions of disease such as cancer or cardiovascular disease and can reduce the side effects of chemotherapy.

According to the journal of the Cell Stem Cell, when fasting for a period of 2-3 days or more at a time can help to decrease the normal of white blood cells. This suggests that the body gets rid of cells that are weak and then turns stem cells to generate new and healthier cells.

3. Slow Down of Metabolism:

During fasting, the metabolic rate of the body decreases so that energy can be preserved since there are lack of nutrients entering the body system. In other words, this slowdown is influenced by muscle tissue loss. This is to make sure that the energy produced by ketosis will be enough to preserve the body during fasting.

It is has been said that a slower metabolism and reduced calories consumption can lead to longer life span.

4. Decrease in Cholesterol Level:

During fasting, the body seems to use cholesterol as a source of energy. In this process, the quantity of plague that have formed inside the arteries reduces and this reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease.
